About Ethyl Acetate Decaffeination
EA is a method designed to gently separate caffeine from coffee bean. Ethyl acetate, a naturally occurring solvent found in various fruits such as bananas, pineapple and fermented sugar cane. Here's how the process unfolds:First, coffee beans are given a nice steam bath to allow their pores to open and prepare them to part with their caffeine. They then take a leisurely soak in water, allowing caffeine and other soluble compounds to mingle. Then, this water-caffeine mixture is introduced to ethyl acetate. EA and caffeine really get along, their bond allowing caffeine to dissolve out of the bean's structure.The caffeine is then kindly escorted away from the coffee solution, leaving behind decaffeinated coffee beans. Any remaining traces of ethyl acetate are whisked away through evaporation, leaving you with caffeine-free coffee. It's considered a gentler decaffeination method, often chosen for "natural" decaffeination processes, thanks to the ethyl acetate's presence in common fruits.
